Our Process:

At STP Home Performance, we follow a three-step process to ensure that we meet your energy-saving goals while maximizing comfort and building health: 

1) Building Diagnosis (Energy Audit)

During our comprehensive home energy audit, we will evaluate your home for opportunities to save energy and increase comfort, and provide you with a detailed, written report that looks at the most cost-effective potential home energy upgrades (attic insulation, crawlspace encapsulation, wall insulation, duct sealing, etc.) and work with you to determine the best way to move forward to accomplish your goals.

2) Upgrades

Since we offer holistic solutions, we won't just try to sell you a product or service. We will use information collected during our whole-house energy audit to determine the best ways to achieve your goals and move forward accordingly. Solutions will vary from home to home, but typically involve some combination of air sealing, insulation, and duct sealing.

3) Test-Out for Quality Assurance

Once all upgrades and installations are complete, we will conduct a "test-out" energy audit to ensure that the improvements were executed properly and will have the desired effect. We conduct this data-based test-out audit with blower door testing and the same diagnostic tools used during the initial energy audit, in order to ensure that your goals (whether energy savings, comfort, health & indoor air quality, environmental impact or some combination of all of the above) have been met.

The STP Home Performance Difference:

At STP Home Performance, we use a whole-house approach to building performance that takes into account the relationship between a home's various components to ensure that each works with the next efficiently and effectively. When performing a retrofit that reduces a home's air leakage and improves its insulation, for example, we will perform a heat load calculation to determine how many BTU's are needed to heat the house efficiently. If we determine that your home would benefit from a smaller heating system after the building envelope upgrade, we'll recommend moving to a smaller heating system, because a tighter house needs fewer BTU's.

It's this holistic approach that sets us apart from many of our competitors. Depending on the degree to which you'd like to tackle your home's energy performance, we'll work with you to find the best solutions, and the most cost-effective ways to implement them.
